How to Apply for a UIN to Sell on Thotfy (Via GST Portal)

If you're a non-GST registered seller looking to sell on Thotfy (an E-Commerce Operator), you are required by law to generate a User ID (UIN) on the GST Portal. This helps ensure compliance under GST rules for selling through platforms like ours.

Why Do I Need a UIN?

Even if you’re not GST registered, the Government of India requires sellers on e-commerce platforms to register as “unregistered suppliers” and obtain a UIN for Tax Collected at Source (TCS) reporting.

🔒 This doesn’t mean you’re registering for GST — it just gives you a unique user ID to legally sell through Thotfy.

Step-by-Step: Apply for UIN Online

Step 1: Fill in User Credentials

Go to the link and fill in the following:

  • Name as per PAN: Full legal name
  • PAN Number: Enter your 10-digit PAN (apply if you don’t have one)
  • Primary Email & Mobile Number: For OTP verification
  • State: Choose the state where you operate or ship from
  • Secondary Email & Mobile (Optional): For backup communication

Step 2: Provide Address Details

You can use the map to auto-locate your address, or fill it manually:

  • PIN Code, State, District, City
  • Locality, Road/Street, Building Name/Number, Floor, Landmark

This should be your pickup address, where shipments will be collected.

Step 3: Add Goods or Services You Supply

You must list the top 5 goods you intend to sell. Use the official GST portal to search for the correct HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) Codes:

Example:

  • For handmade bags: Search “Handicraft Bags”
  • For wall decor: Search “Home Decor” or “Metal Artwork”

🧾 Choose the HSN codes carefully — these help identify what you sell and ensure compliance.

Step 4: Complete Captcha & Submit

  • Type the characters in the image (captcha)
  • Click Submit
  • Complete the OTP Verification and you’ll get a reference number and your UIN will be generated after processing

What Happens After Submission?

  • You’ll receive your UIN, which you’ll use during Thotfy seller onboarding
  • Thotfy uses your UIN to comply with TCS filing requirements
  • You can now start selling legally on the platform

📌 Important Notes

  • This UIN is not a GSTIN
  • It is only for unregistered sellers using e-commerce platforms
  • Apply once per state from which you plan to ship products
